Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Robbery Team have arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges from them.
The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were arrested during a follow-up investigation into the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix allegedly linked to an armed robbery operation in April 2026.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to Babaseyi, the arrests followed sustained tactical intelligence and operational follow-up by the Anti-Robbery Team after the stolen vehicle was recovered.
He said the operatives traced the suspects to their hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, as well as the Command area of Lagos State, leading to their arrest.
Babaseyi said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects, alongside other members of their gang, were allegedly involved in the April robbery and several other armed robbery operations and vehicle snatching incidents across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of the state.
He added that a search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.
The police spokesperson further stated that the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to participating in several robbery operations in the region and were providing information to aid the ongoing investigation.
He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its tenacity and operational efficiency, describing the arrests and recovery of the firearms as evidence of the command’s determination to bring criminal investigations to a logical conclusion.
Ojajuni also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police through the command’s emergency channels.
