President Muhammad Buhari has intervened in the alleged rift between The All Progressives Congress, APC’s National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
According to an undisclosed source, Party leaders like, former
governors of Osun and Ogun States, Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Segun Osoba and also Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, initiated the reconciliatory meeting between the duo, at the mega rally for Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, APC’s aspirant in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, where the President was said to have appealed to Tinubu to resolve the issues between him and the Lagos State Governor, saying it has started to raise dissension and grievances amidst party faithfuls.
The meeting reached an emotional climax when, Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu who verbally led the plea with Tinubu, prostrated as against his culture. “It is not in the culture of Hausa people to prostrate. What we normally do is express respect to our elders or leaders by saying Ranka Dade. But today, I am going to break that protocol,” he reportedly said, and prostrated.
Unable to hold his emotions, the national leader burst into tears, at which point, Buhari stood up, moved closer to Tinubu, and begged him to give Ambode a second chance.Consequently, Tinubu called for a meeting of the Governors Advisory Council (GAC) to hold on Saturday, Semptember 22, the outcome of which would determine the incumbent’s fate.
The impromptu reconciliatory meeting, which also had the presence of current Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, was said to have appeared positive despite Tinubu’s ‘unyielding gesture’. “Even though Tinubu did not give any specific answer, the meeting was promising. Other party leaders are intervening. The way things are now, there is a positive pointer already, especially with the intervention of Mr. President and Aremo Osoba,” a source said.
