The Tor Tiv V, James Ayatse, has rejected allegations that the fatalities in Benue State stem from conflicts between herders and agriculturalists, characterizing these assertions as disinformation.
He addressed the current assembly involving President Bola Tinubu and stakeholders in Benue on Wednesday. He stated that such information had resulted in recommendations for the Benue populace to maintain patience and cultivate a spirit of acceptance.
Ayatse stated that the murders constituted a deliberate, meticulously orchestrated, large-scale genocidal incursion and territorial acquisition endeavor in the state by “pastoralist terrorists and marauders” that had persisted for decades.
He remarked, “We harbor significant apprehensions regarding the misinformation and mischaracterization of the security predicament in Benue State. Your Excellency, this is not merely herders-farmers confrontations, nor is it communal conflicts, nor acts of retaliation or minor altercations. ”
“It is this fallacy that has resulted in recommendations such as ‘maintain tolerance, engage in peace negotiations, and adapt to cohabitation with your neighbors. ’”
“What we are confronting here in Benue is a methodical, meticulously orchestrated, full-scale genocidal incursion and land appropriation initiative by pastoralist terrorists and bandits, which has persisted for decades and is exacerbating annually. “
“A misguided diagnosis will invariably result in inappropriate treatment. Thus, we are confronting issues that are considerably more malevolent than we realize. It is not merely about coexisting with your neighbors; it is about confronting the conflict,” the traditional leader remarked.
