The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed comprehensive security measures across Daura and the wider state to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free burial for former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The deployment is being coordinated under the supervision of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 14, Katsina, alongside Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the police extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Katsina, the late president’s family, and the nation at large. The Command also acknowledged Buhari’s lasting contributions to national development.
In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina announced the deployment of 2,807 operatives to strengthen security around key locations tied to the burial events.
The State Commandant, Aminu Datti, revealed the deployment during a strategy briefing with senior officers at the NSCDC headquarters on Monday. He said the directive was in line with orders from the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Abubakar Audi, who expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former leader.
“The CG ordered the deployment of adequate security personnel before, during, and after the burial to maintain peace and order,” Datti said.
According to him, the security strategy includes intensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, community engagement, and inter-agency collaboration. Special forces and units from various departments have also been mobilised.
Strategic points such as Daura town, the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, the palaces of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, and other sensitive state locations have been fortified.
Both covert and uniformed officers have also been deployed to all 34 local government areas in the state to secure federal, state, and local government assets.
“Personnel deployed must maintain the highest levels of professionalism and work in synergy with sister agencies to provide seamless security,” the commandant emphasised.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London, is being laid to rest in his hometown of Daura in line with Islamic rites. His funeral has drawn national and international attention, prompting a massive security response to ensure safety and order during the solemn occasion.
