LASPPPA URGES RESIDENTS TO COMPLY WITH CONTRAVENTION NOTICES
The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has called on residents, property owners, and developers to promptly receive and acknowledge contravention notices served by its District Offices to avoid enforcement actions.
Speaking on the development, the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike emphasised that refusal to accept or acknowledge a contravention notice does not prevent the Authority from carrying out enforcement, including the sealing of non-compliant properties, in line with the Lagos State Physical Planning Laws.
He noted that the contravention notice is a vital step in the compliance process, as it provides clear instructions on the necessary steps property owners must take to regularise their developments and avoid penalties.
“It has become common for people to ignore notices pasted on their buildings or deny ever receiving them. However, records and evidence from our District Offices always prove otherwise,” Osinaike said.
Also speaking, the Director of the Monitoring and Compliance Unit (MCU), Tpl. Iyiola Olarinde expressed concern over how some property owners only present relevant documents after enforcement teams arrive on-site to seal their properties.
“Rather than cooperate with officials during the early stages, some owners resort to confrontation or claim ignorance of being served. This attitude is counterproductive and delays resolution,” he added.
The Authority therefore advises affected individuals to visit the relevant District Office where the contravention notice was issued, or proceed to LASPPPA Headquarters at Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, for further clarification and compliance support.
LASPPPA remains committed to fostering a safe, orderly, and legally compliant built environment across Lagos State.
