The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two young men in connection with the gruesome murder of 22-year-old Dauda Ahmed in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Babayo Musa, 20, and Zaidu Sani, 18, allegedly conspired with two others—still at large—to attack Dauda with machetes over suspicions of motorcycle theft.

According to police reports, the attack took place on Tuesday morning at Jauro Musa Quarters. The victim sustained fatal machete wounds to the head and stomach and was rushed to the General Hospital in Kumo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Gombe Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, in a statement on Thursday, condemned the incident, describing it as a case of “criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.”

He said the arrested suspects have confessed to the assault and named the two fleeing accomplices as Sulaiman and Usama.

“Regardless of the allegations, no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. Jungle justice is not only unlawful but also undermines our justice system,” Abdullahi stated.

The assault was first reported by the victim’s elder brother, Dahiru Ahmed of Sarkin Yaki Quarters, who told police the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on August 6, 2025.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer of Akko Division, CSP Adam Ngubdo, led an operation that resulted in the arrest of the two suspects. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

The police urged the public to report criminal activities to the nearest station rather than resorting to mob action.

“We call on residents to remain law-abiding and support the police with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects,” the PPRO added.
