OLUBADAN ELEVATES STATUS OF MAKINDE’S BROTHERS, 8 OTHER CHIEFS

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will host a ceremony on Friday to honor and promote Governor Seyi Makinde’s older brother, Olumuyiwa Makinde, along with eight other chiefs in the Otun Olubadan line.

Olumuyiwa Makinde, who is a lawyer based in Ibadan, will be promoted from the position of Aare Onibon to Gbonka Olubadan.
Meanwhile, Dotun Sanusi, a businessman and engineer, will move up from Ajia to Bada Olubadan.

Adeola Oloko, the media aide for the Olubadan, announced on Wednesday that the ceremony will take place at 11 am at the Oke-Aremo Palace in Ibadan North Local Government Area, and members of the Olubadan-in-Council are expected to attend.

At that time, the people who were elevated included Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko, who later became Otun Olubadan; Asipa Olubadan, Oba Kola Daisi, who is now Osi Olubadan; and Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, who was promoted to Asipa Olubadan.

Other people who were promoted were Oba Muritala Akande, who moved from Ekarun to Ekerin Olubadan, and Chief Kola Babalola, who went up from Abese to Ekarun Olubadan.

Oba Ladoja took over the throne after the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

According to the statement released on Wednesday, Akin Alabi, a member of the House of Representatives, will be moving from Jagun to Ajia Olubadan. Additionally, the promotion from Mogaji to the competitive Jagun title has been put on hold until more information is available.

The statement said, “The chiefs who will be affected include a lawyer based in Ibadan and the state Governor’s older brother, Olumuyiwa Makinde, who will be promoted from Aare Onibon to Gbonka Olubadan.
Also, the wellknown engineer and business leader, Dotun Sanusi, will be promoted from Ajia to Bada Olubadan.

“Similarly, House of Representatives member, Akin Alabi, would be elevated from Jagun to Ajia Olubadan.

“The promotion from Mogaji to the highly competitive Jagun Olubadan title would not hold until further notice.

“The rest of the Chiefs due for promotion are as follows: Chief Dauda Gbadamosi from Aare Ago to Ayingun Olubadan; Chief William Akande from Lagunna to Aare Ago Olubadan, Chief Oluyinka Akande from Oota to Lagunna Olubadan, Chief Olufemi Ogunwale from Aare-egbe Omo to Oota Olubadan

“Chief Wasiu Aderoju Alaadorin from Gbonka to Aare-egbe Omo Olubadan and Chief Abiola Anlamole from Bada to Aare Onibon Olubadan.”
