APC REJECTS SPECULATION OVER SHETTIMA’S PLACE ON TINUBU’S 2027 TICKET

By: Balogun Ibrahim
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka addressed the speculation on Monday during an appearance on The Media Politics Today.
Responding to calls from within and outside the party for a more balanced 2027 ticket, Morka said the APC remains focused on governance and is not engaging in early election discussions.
He said he had earlier issued a statement dismissing reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be replaced, describing the claims as baseless rumours.
Morka added that under the Electoral Act and existing laws, electoral activities are still prohibited, noting that the party is not legally permitted to engage in discussions about the 2027 elections at this stage, despite public and media interest.
“Speculating about names to replace the sitting Vice President is wrong. It is simply mischievous, intended to sow discord and confusion in the polity. That is why I had to come out today to dismiss that suggestion and refocus attention on the administration’s efforts to rebuild the economy and drive progress,” he said.
Addressing concerns over religious inclusivity, Morka said the party remains committed to representing and accommodating all Nigerians.
Morka said the party remains inclusive and stressed that discussions on the matter are premature, noting that the APC would address such issues at the appropriate time and in the national interest, while declining to engage in speculation.

The party’s leadership has repeatedly dismissed reports of plans to replace Shettima, describing them as speculative, false and without foundation.
Despite the denials, various political blocs have continued to float the names of several prominent figures.
Public speculation over the possibility of Shettima’s removal began to gain traction in mid-2025.
An APC North-East stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe in June 2025 reportedly turned chaotic after speakers endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term while conspicuously leaving out Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Later that year, Shettima’s image was said to be absent from official APC banners displaying party leaders at a North-East zonal hearing in Maiduguri.
