The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and involvement in illicit drug activities in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were identified as Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi, 39; Abdullahi Shaibu, 26; and Obah Chima, 18. One of the suspects is said to be the owner of the motel where the arrest was made.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, carried out the operation based on credible intelligence.

According to him, the operatives stormed the motel in the late hours of February 9, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

“During the search, one Jojef pump-action gun with breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges, was recovered at the scene,” Ikenga stated.

He added that one of the suspects, Ibeabuchi, allegedly confessed to the crime, while further investigation led to the arrest of the other two suspects.

The police also recovered substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine, ‘colos,’ and ‘mkpuru-mmiri’ from the premises.

Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to intensifying operations against criminal elements in the state and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to support policing efforts.

He noted that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.

In a related development, the command had in December 2025 arrested a 26-year-old armed robbery suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, during an operation at Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended by operatives of the RRS, Awkuzu, after sustaining injuries during the operation. A locally made Beretta pistol and 11 live rounds of ammunition were recovered from him at the time of arrest.
