The executive committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has initiated a lawsuit at the federal high court in Abuja, requesting a court order to prevent Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the FCT, from presenting herself as a party member.
The legal action was filed 48 hours after the senator was placed on indefinite suspension by the ward executive committee due to allegations of anti–party activities, insubordination, and breach of party rules.
The case is brought by Okezuo Kanayo, chairman of ADC in Wuse ward, and Isaiah Samuel, the ward secretary.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/539/2026, the plaintiffs asked the court to declare that the Wuse ward executive committee has the constitutional authority to discipline and suspend members within its jurisdiction.
Among the reliefs sought is a declaration that the senator cannot lawfully parade herself as a member or card-carrying member of the ADC while the suspension remains in force.
The plaintiffs also asked the court to declare that the national working committee (NWC) of the party should not recognise the senator as a member at any level during the period of her suspension.
