Eight suspects have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command in connection with motorcycle thefts, fraud, and other criminal activities across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that intelligence received on March 6, 2026, led officers to a suspected criminal hideout along Jebba Road in Mokwa.

He added that on March 8, around 5:30 pm, a patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Mokwa apprehended 35-year-old Yahaya Alh. Nma and recovered three Bajaj motorcycles and one TVS motorcycle suspected to have been stolen.

The PRO disclosed that further investigation led to the arrest of three other suspects: Abdullahi Usman (35), Idris Mohammed (40), and Mohammed Ndako (27).

He stated that they reportedly confessed to stealing multiple motorcycles within Mokwa.

Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other gang members and recover additional stolen motorcycles.

In separate incidents, Abiodun revealed that 42-year-old Yahaya Mohamed of Bayagi, Bida, was arrested for impersonating a police officer to defraud phone repair shops.

The Police imagemaker said Mohammed allegedly obtained phone screen repairs without payment, totaling #32,500 in two separate incidents earlier this year. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional victims.

Also, he revealed that on 3rd March, Abubakar Lawal of Dzukogi, Bida, was arrested for stealing a goat from a sawmill area, adding that the suspect admitted he intended to sell the animal.

He further stated that in Suleja, two suspects, Abraham Pius Agada and Moses Ochapa, both from Masaka, Nasarawa State, were arrested on 6th March for using fake debit alerts to fraudulently purchase five 1-litre engine oil cans valued at about #20,000.

The suspects reportedly admitted to carrying out similar fraudulent activities in Kefi, Nasarawa, and Suleja. Police also recovered a Toyota Corolla (registration ASH 972 SK) and over a dozen engine oil cans obtained through the alleged fraud, SP Abiodun added.

The two individuals were arraigned in court on March 11 and subsequently remanded in a correctional facility.
