SALLAH: YOBE POLICE CAUTION AGAINST FALSE ALARMS AND MISINFORMATION

The Yobe State Police Command has warned against the spread of false alarms and unverified information, stressing that such actions could trigger panic and put lives at risk.

In a statement on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer Dungus Abdulkarim highlighted recent incidents at prayer gatherings where false alarms caused chaos among worshippers.

“The Command notes with concern the devastating consequences of false alarms in crowded places. Such actions not only undermine public confidence but may also result in injuries or fatalities due to stampedes,” he said.

Residents have been urged to refrain from raising false alarms and to report any suspicious activity discreetly to security personnel.

He also warned against sharing unverified information, particularly on social media, emphasizing that it could cause unnecessary fear and confusion.

“Citizens are strongly encouraged to verify information through the appropriate authorities before sharing, to prevent the spread of misleading or panic-inducing content,” Abdulkarim added.

Dungus Abdulkarim urged organisers of prayer gatherings to work closely with security agencies to ensure that events are conducted safely and smoothly.

The Yobe State Police Command personnel deployed across all designated locations to guarantee safety, Dungus Abdulkarim state’s Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, congratulated Muslims on completing Ramadan and extended Sallah greetings.

“Security is a collective responsibility. The Command urges all residents to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and smooth Sallah celebration and beyond,” the statement concluded.

It is recalled that a bomb explosion in Maiduguri on Monday simultaneously rocked three locations, leaving 23 people dead and 108 others injured to varying degree.

Hotjist Media earlier reported that the bombings targeted the Post Office area flyover, Maiduguri Monday Market, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
