Wizkid, Olamide join #EndSARSBrutality
Concerned about incessant harassment from operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arm of the Nigeria Police, hip hop acts, Wizkid and Olamide, have added their voice to calling members of the special arm to order.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Wizkid who recently clinched the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) award for ‘Best International Artiste’ spoke of the country’s responsibility to its youth.
“#EndSarsBrutality Empower the youth , guide and protect the youth! Thats all we ask ????,” wrote Wizkid.
Earlier on Sunday, ‘Wo’ crooner, Olamide, posted an image with the inscription; ‘#EndSarsBrutality plenty suffer man de face. Guide and protect the people not make life miserable for them due to the pressure that comes with your work or what you going through at home. A man with gun should be mentally balance and well oriented.’
Olamide also posted, ‘#EndSarsBrutalityNigeria we can do better.’
The Instagram post has garnered nearly 50, 000 likes.
Many Nigerian youths have narrated stories of harassment meted out on them by SARS operatives and have shared such on social media.
And a tweet credited to Assistant Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, has also infuriated many Nigerians.
“To all those having frightening dreams – “shot/beaten by police”. Pray to God not to allow it happen + avoid areas where police are responding to incidents in real lofe. If such dreams persist, GO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST.”
However, the Nigeria Police has asked victims of SARS’ harassment to report it.
Tweeting on Monday, it wrote, ‘Re: #EndSARS If u’ve contact with SARS personnel and u’ve any complaints about deir actions or inactions, u’re at liberty 2 report deir conducts 2 various platforms provided by d NPF to deal with unprofessional conduct of members of d Force rather dan call 4 end SARS. 08057000001.’
