Antonio Conte: ‘I am totally committed to Chelsea’
The pressure on Conte’s shoulders has been ramped up in recent weeks following successive defeats to Bournemouth and Watford which saw Chelsea lose back-to-back top-flight games by a three-goal margin for the first time since 1995.
The Italian called on the club to give him their public backing after that match, but he admitted ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion that results would need to improve if he is to keep his job.
“I’m not thinking for only one moment about the possibility of going away from this club. I repeat, my commitment is totally for this club, like that of my players. But, as you know very well, because we are talking about football, a lot of times – I don’t agree with this – the coach depends on the results,” he told reporters in his pre-match press conference.
“For this reason, we have to pay great attention. When you have this period with such poor results, you have to divide the responsibility between me, the players and the club.
“We have to try to stop this bad run and to try to get three points against West Brom. It won’t be easy because in this type of situation the confidence is not high but we have to trust in our work.”
Chelsea’s next two league matches after West Brom see them face the top two Manchester United and Manchester City, both away from home.
