The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has arrested four persons in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area, for allegedly impersonating operatives of the squad and engaging in illegal activities.

The suspects were reportedly parading the streets in uniforms with fake identity cards, intimidating and extorting residents. Their arrest followed complaints from community members who said they had been harassed by the group.

Speaking on the development on Wednesday, the Director-General of SASA, Monday Onwe, condemned the impersonation, stressing that the state government had not approved any anti-touting initiative in Achalla.

Onwe said the authority to establish such a formation rests solely with Governor Chukwuma Soludo, warning that the fraudulent use of SASA’s name would not be tolerated.

“The alleged activities of this group, including intimidation and extortion using dangerous implements, are unacceptable and damaging to the integrity of the original Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad. We remain committed to a full investigation, and anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in a competent court of law,” he stated.

Onwe further explained that membership of the anti-touting squad requires mandatory training and certification, adding that discipline, professionalism, and efficiency remain the benchmarks for service.

He assured residents that the state government is determined to protect communities from criminal exploitation.
