EDO GOVT RECONNECTS TO BEDC AFTER OSSIOMO POWER SHUTDOWN
By Aishat Momoh. O.
The Edo State Government has begun the process of reconnecting to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for power supply, five years after breaking the company’s monopoly through the establishment of Ossiomo Power.
Director General of the Edo State Electrification Agency, Saturday Egbadon, confirmed the development on Monday, stating that some streetlights and government buildings have already been reconnected, while the process remains ongoing.
The switch follows the September 1 shutdown of Ossiomo Power over an ownership tussle between the company and its Chinese partners, Jiangsu Communication Clean Energy Technology.
Ossiomo Power, which generates 95MW of electricity, had supplied power to government offices, the Edo State Government House, the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat, private organisations, and streetlights.
