The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly vandalising and stealing government property along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli Road axis.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, identifying the suspects as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ogonna and 25-year-old Ifeanychukwu Oko, both of Lohom, Uzuakoli, in Bende Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested following actionable intelligence, while several suspected stolen items were recovered from them.
Items recovered include 49 pieces of angle irons, two saws, three spanners, three small iron boards and 86 electrical poles.
The statement said operatives of the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters, along the Uzuakoli Road, apprehended the suspects during a stop-and-search operation on June 19, 2026.
“The suspects were arrested in an auto-rickshaw (Keke Napep), and the items recovered from them are suspected to have been vandalised and stolen,” the statement said.
The police command added that the suspects had confessed to vandalising and stealing the recovered items during interrogation.
It further stated that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to preventing and detecting crime in the state.
He also urged residents to support security agencies by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
