Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and several other political parties from participating in the 2027 general elections, citing alleged violations of constitutional provisions.
The ruling was delivered on Monday in a case brought before the court by a group of former lawmakers.
According to the judgment, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is expected to contest the presidency on the ADC platform, would be left without a political party through which to pursue his 2027 presidential bid.
The decision also affects Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is reportedly seeking re-election in the August 15 governorship poll under the Accord Party, potentially jeopardizing his participation in the race.
The suit, numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against INEC and several political parties, including the ADC, Action Alliance, APP, Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party.
