CDS MUSA SAYS SOUTH EAST SAFER FOLLOWING SIMON EKPA’S ARREST

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, states that the apprehension of pro-Biafran activist Simon Ekpa in Finland on terrorism-related allegations in November 2024 has enhanced security in the South East region.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Musa affirmed that Ekpa is currently undergoing prosecution by Finnish officials.

The defence chief added that military operations are ongoing to apprehend Ekpa’s lieutenants across Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Abia states.

In a recent update, Musa remarked, “He is still facing legal proceedings in Finland. Therefore, we remain optimistic. ”

“When we discussed him, individuals believed we were merely fabricating stories. However, since his apprehension, conditions in the Southeast have been improving.

“Thus, individuals of his kind will be pursued wherever they may be, and by any means necessary, we will apprehend them. ”

General Musa also declared the recent capture of Ansaru terrorist leaders, characterizing this achievement as “a significant victory for all of us.” He credited the success to enhanced collaboration among the Nigerian Air Force, Army, and Navy, observing that these unified efforts have bolstered ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives.

“That’s why the Ansaru individuals represent a considerable victory for all of us. There are others we are monitoring closely.

“The other targets we do not discuss are also under our surveillance, and we intend to apprehend them as well. I am confident we will accomplish this,” he added.

The Chief of Defence Staff further revealed that the Defence Headquarters is in the process of organizing an African Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference aimed at reinforcing continental cooperation in the battle against terrorism.

“In order to achieve more, because no nation is an island, we’re also organising our African Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference starting on Monday, where all the Chiefs of Defence Staff in Africa, for the first time, coming to Nigeria for to discuss, because we see that these incidents are not respected anywhere.
