The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has praised the officers and personnel of the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for the enhancement in the country’s daily crude oil output.

Oluyede expressed his appreciation at the Brigade headquarters in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, on Monday, during an operational visit to the military unit.

He further acknowledged Brigadier General Olufemi Obolo, Commander of the 16 Brigade and Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force South South Operations, for his effective leadership.

Additionally, Oluyede lauded the Bayelsa State Government and the Niger Delta Development Commission for their assistance in providing essential infrastructure for the brigade.

During the visit, he initiated projects that included an annex building detention facility, a 300KVA electrification initiative by the Niger Delta Development Commission, and a garrison residence contributed by the Garrison Commander, Lt Col Mohammed Sheriff Kaigama.

The Chief of Army Staff also evaluated several ongoing projects undertaken by the Bayelsa State Government at the brigade headquarters.

In an address to reporters, Oluyede stated, “Indeed, I am currently in Bayelsa on an operational visit. This involves observing my officers and soldiers, assessing their welfare, gathering insight into their challenges, and specifically determining how I can resolve those challenges; and that is the purpose of my visit today. ”

“And, I can tell you that I’m impressed with what they are doing. It is obvious that the brigade is being driven by a very competent officer who is leading his men very well.

I am presently inclined to endorse a project initiated by a Lt Col (Kaigama), who serves as the garrison commander. I have explicitly communicated that these are the types of officers we seek within the army—individuals who contribute value, exemplify leadership, and possess the appropriate drive to enhance the Nigerian Army.

Furthermore, I can affirm that based on their current activities, it is evident that they are performing admirably. Given the oil production figures that have remained consistent for some time, I urge them to escalate production, potentially reaching two million barrels per day, thereby increasing revenue for the nation, which will foster greater development for the people of Nigeria.

Regarding the assistance from the Bayelsa government and the NDDC, Oluyede remarked, “As you observed, one of the projects inaugurated was supported by the NDDC. I can confirm that the NDDC has been providing substantial assistance to the Nigerian Army, notably through the construction of this vital road.

“The same applies to the Government of Bayelsa State, as I visited and assessed several initiatives being undertaken by the state government in support of the army.

“We commend and encourage them to amplify their efforts because, as I consistently state wherever I go, the Nigerian Army belongs to the citizens.

“These individuals are recruited from every state of Nigeria. Thus, it is the army of the people. The more support we receive, the more effectively we can fulfill our responsibilities. ”

The NDDC Director of Projects, Hon Victor Antai, informed reporters that the commission’s initiatives in the brigade comprise three substations, nine concrete electric poles equipped with 500 watts of streetlights, a solar grid, and solar-powered streetlights.

Upon his arrival at the brigade headquarters, Lt General Oluyede reviewed a guard of honor and was welcomed by the Brigade Commander, Brig General Obolo.
