DATTI: LABOUR PARTY DOORS OPEN FOR OBI IF ADC DENIES HIM 2027 TICKET

Former Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said that Peter Obi would be received back into the party should he fail to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.
Datti made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that it would be preferable for Obi to return to the platform on which they contested the 2023 presidential election.
“I also said that if Peter Obi does not secure the ticket at the ADC, he is more than welcome back to the Labour Party,” the Kaduna-born former running mate said.
“I will stand by him, and no one will do anything negative to Peter Obi. It is better for him to return than to pursue a different agenda,” he added.
His remarks come in the wake of Obi’s decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, nearly three years after they jointly contested the presidency on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
However, Datti said he remains proud of what he and Obi accomplished together.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party chieftain has dismissed reports suggesting he has left the opposition party, describing such claims as false and misleading.
He explained during the programme that he was merely clarifying his continued membership of the Labour Party.
“I never declared an intention to run for the presidency, even though such a possibility could arise. I certainly did not make any declaration,” he said. “I only reaffirmed my membership of the Labour Party.”
He added that in his remarks, he clearly stated that interested aspirants would have to wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable and for the party to formally open the process for expressions of interest.
Datti also blamed what he described as sensationalism on social media for promoting misleading narratives to emotional audiences.
