In response to rising security concerns, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a major intelligence-driven operation to curb “one-chance” robberies, vandalism, and other criminal activities threatening public safety in Abuja.

The operation, which began on Monday, July 7, 2025, was announced in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to restore confidence and ensure residents’ safety, particularly after a spate of disturbing incidents over the past weekend.

“As part of these efforts, the Command will intensify stop-and-search operations at key flashpoints, targeting individuals involved in ‘one-chance’ robberies, vandalism, and the criminal activities of scavengers,” Adeh said.

She also revealed that the crackdown would extend to unauthorised use of diplomatic plate numbers to commit crimes or evade law enforcement. Offenders found operating vehicles with covered or missing number plates, or those displaying only a single plate, will face immediate sanction.

Additionally, motorists with tinted windows have been reminded to carry valid permits, as law enforcement personnel have been directed to strictly enforce compliance.

SP Adeh acknowledged the potential disruptions the enforcement might cause but urged the public to cooperate, stressing that the safety and security of residents remain the Command’s top priority.

“The FCT Police Command remains committed to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property and will continue to do everything within its power to safeguard all residents,” the statement concluded.

The Command called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of the security efforts to rid the city of criminal elements.
