In a major breakthrough in the fight against rural banditry, joint security operatives in Kebbi State have rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered herds of rustled cattle following a coordinated operation in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The victims, who were abducted from Kokanawa and Ukuhu communities, were freed unharmed during a rescue mission prompted by credible intelligence and ordered by Governor Nasir Idris.
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, Abdulrahman Zagga, Director of Security in the Cabinet Office, confirmed that the operatives pursued the fleeing bandits to the Zamfara River axis, where they successfully recovered the stolen livestock and secured the safe release of all hostages.
“The assailants took flight upon sensing the approach of our operatives. All the kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt, and the rustled cattle were recovered. The Governor’s swift directive was crucial to the success of this operation,” Zagga stated.
He praised Governor Idris for his decisive leadership and continued support for security agencies, particularly in high-risk areas like the Zuru Emirate and Lakurawa axis of Argungu Emirate, where bandit attacks have become recurrent.
Zagga also commended the professionalism and bravery of the security personnel involved in the mission, noting that plans are underway to establish a permanent security base in the Zuru Emirate to sustain peace and deter future attacks.
“This achievement underscores the impact of the Governor’s aggressive stance on security. His administration remains fully committed to restoring peace and protecting lives and property across all communities,” he said.
The Kebbi State Government reaffirmed its determination to intensify efforts in addressing the growing threats of kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes, particularly in vulnerable rural areas.
