NAWOJ OSUN PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO INEC, ADVOCATES GREATER WOMEN INCLUSION IN ELECTORAL PROCESS

The Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the Honourable Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo, as part of efforts to promote women’s participation in the electoral process.
Led by its Chairperson, Mrs. Abisola Ariwodola, and Secretary, Oluwaranti Ojewumi, the NAWOJ delegation said the visit was aimed at familiarising with the Commission and fostering stronger collaboration towards advancing gender inclusivity in electoral activities across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Ariwodola emphasized the association’s commitment to supporting democratic values and enhancing civic responsibility among women. She urged INEC to ensure the active inclusion of women in electoral processes and decision-making.
In his remarks, Dr. Agboke expressed appreciation for NAWOJ’s visit and lauded the association for its professionalism and sustained advocacy on gender equity. He reiterated INEC’s commitment to inclusive electoral practices and urged NAWOJ to support ongoing voter education campaigns, particularly targeted at women.
The REC highlighted the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, scheduled to commence with online registration on August 18, 2025, and in-person registration on August 25, 2025. He stressed the importance of women’s active participation, beginning with voter registration, as a critical step in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future.
The meeting was attended by the INEC Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Segun-Osifeso M. Olufunmike, as well as Heads of Departments and Units.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of INEC’s Election Guidelines and Regulations to NAWOJ and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
