NIGERIAN STUDENT IN UK JAILED OVER ATTEMPTED RAPE, TO BE DEPORTED AFTER SENTENCE
Agency Report

A Nigerian student in the United Kingdom, Qudus Ajeyemi, has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years imprisonment after being convicted of attempted rape and sexual assault following an attack on a woman in Hull.
Ajeyemi, 27, popularly known as “Spartan”, was found guilty after a six-day trial at Hull Crown Court. At the time of the offence in early 2023, he was residing on May Street in Hull under a student visa arrangement.
According to evidence presented during the trial, the victim had attended a gathering at a house on Tavistock Street after a night out. Feeling unwell after consuming alcohol, she accepted Ajeyemi’s offer to rest upstairs.
Prosecutor Charlotte Baines told the court that moments after the woman lay down, Ajeyemi began making unwanted physical advances.
The victim reportedly resisted and made it clear she was not interested, but the advances continued. She eventually escaped the room, returned downstairs in distress and informed others present.
The court heard that Ajeyemi later contacted the victim through FaceTime, where he admitted his actions and repeatedly apologised. Additional messages requesting forgiveness were also sent.
The victim preserved records of the conversations and submitted them to police in March 2023, prompting an investigation by Humberside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered that Ajeyemi be deported to Nigeria after completing his term. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and handed a seven-year restraining order.
Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s courage in reporting the incident and said sexual offences are treated with utmost seriousness.
He stated that the conviction reflected continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to hold offenders accountable and encourage survivors to come forward when ready.
