Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem, popularly known as Atinuke Kareem, after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Her death comes barely two weeks after the passing of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who reportedly died after battling stage four cancer.
The death of Atinuke was announced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by the Ogun State Governor of the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Owolabi Ajasa.
Ajasa disclosed the development in a statement shared on his Instagram page, expressing sadness over the actress’ death despite efforts to support her treatment.
He wrote, “We sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed financially, offered prayers, encouragement, and support towards the treatment of our dear colleague, ATINUKE REMILEKUN KAREEM.
“Sadly, despite all our efforts and prayers, Atinuke has passed on and answered the final call.
“We cannot question the Almighty God. We can only submit to His will and pray that He grants her eternal rest and gives her family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss.”
Atinuke’s death has further deepened the grief in the Nigerian film industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the actress and remembering her contributions to Nollywood.
