The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year-old and two teenage accomplices suspected of carrying out a series of armed robberies across Ibadan.
The arrests were made during a proactive stop-and-search operation conducted by the Command’s Operations Department, confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
The suspects were intercepted while travelling in an unregistered tricycle, locally known as “Keke Maruwa.” A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a concealed weapon.
“A meticulous search of the tricycle resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated single-barrel gun, modified for concealment. The immediate arrest of the suspects reflects the vigilance of our operatives and the effectiveness of the stop-and-search strategy,” the statement said.
The suspects have been identified as Abdulrahman Rasheed, 19, Biodun Fatai, 18, and Muiz Salawudeen, 18. During questioning, they reportedly confessed to multiple armed robberies in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State, specialising in snatching mobile phones, motorcycles, and other valuables at gunpoint.
