The Osun State Police Command has arraigned three suspects before a court for allegedly stealing and selling 300 insecticide-treated mosquito nets meant for free distribution to residents under a government health intervention programme.
The suspects, identified as Rabbi Bennett, Opeyemi Ajibola and Aminu Ibrahim, were subsequently remanded in a correctional centre pending further judicial proceedings.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to the statement, the police received information on June 9, 2026, regarding the alleged illegal sale of government-owned mosquito nets intended for free distribution to members of the public.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bennett, a native of Delta State and a staff member of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) attached to Ife North Local Government Area in Ipetumodu, allegedly had a dispute with Opeyemi Ajibola, a commercial motorcycle rider, over proceeds from the unlawful sale of the mosquito nets.
The police said further investigations established that the suspects, in collaboration with Aminu Ibrahim, allegedly sold six bundles containing 300 insecticide-treated mosquito nets on June 8, 2026.
According to the command, the mosquito nets were part of a government public health intervention programme and were meant to be distributed free of charge to residents.
The statement added that the three suspects were arrested and taken into custody, where they allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation.
“The case has since been charged to court, and all suspects have been remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further judicial proceedings,” the statement said.
The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring that individuals entrusted with implementing government welfare programmes are held accountable in accordance with the law.
