Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has assured residents of Kurmin Wali that all individuals abducted during Sunday’s attack on the community will soon be reunited with their families.
Gunmen targeted three churches in the community on Sunday, abducting approximately 167 worshippers. Speaking during a visit to the area, Governor Sani said the state government is working closely with security agencies to secure the release of the victims.
“We have been collaborating over the past two days with relevant security agencies — including the military, the DSS, the police, and the Office of the National Security Adviser — to ensure the swift recovery of our people abducted in this vital community,” Sani said.
The governor emphasized that the number of victims is immaterial, stressing that the government has a duty to protect lives and property, whether one person or hundreds are affected. He condemned any attempts to politicize the incident or focus on numbers, describing such actions as inappropriate.
“We should not be talking about numbers or politics. This is about the sanctity of human life and dignity,” Sani said. “That is why we will go to any length, in collaboration with security agencies, to ensure the safe return of our people here in Kurmin Wali.”

Governor Sani also announced that the state government would cover medical expenses for those injured in the attack. He revealed plans to engage the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, to establish a military base in the community, citing its proximity to banditry hotspots like Rijana town.
While the military has strengthened security along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, Sani noted that bandits have moved into hinterland areas, leaving communities like Kurmin Wali vulnerable.
He further stated that his administration is committed to constructing an access road linking Kurmin Wali to the highway, directing the Commissioner for Public Works to carry out an assessment.
“We protect the lives of everyone, irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation. We are one in Kaduna State,” the governor added.
