WIKE INITIATES LEGAL ACTION AGAINST FCTA WORKERS

By: Fasasi Hammad
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approached the National Industrial Court to challenge the ongoing strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The suit was filed in Abuja following the commencement of an indefinite industrial action by the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum. The strike has led to the shutdown of key government offices, including the FCTA Secretariat.
Court documents reveal that Wike, alongside the FCTA, is seeking an order restraining the unions from picketing, blocking access to offices, or disrupting official activities.

The matter, marked as suit number NICN/ABJ/17/2026, has been scheduled for hearing on Monday.
Justice E. D. Subilim has approved substituted service of court processes on the union leadership, authorising service through newspaper publication and the posting of notices at the JUAC office within the FCTA Secretariat.
Despite the legal action, JUAC has reaffirmed its resolve to continue the strike, insisting that workers’ demands remain unaddressed. The union has urged its members to stay at home until further notice.
