Operatives of the Niger State Police Command, in a joint patrol with military personnel, have killed a suspected armed robber during a gun battle along the Abuja-Kaduna Road. The incident occurred early Monday, June 16, 2025, when the security team intercepted the gang based on credible intelligence.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the confrontation resulted in the death of one of the suspects, while others fled with gunshot wounds. The body of the deceased was deposited at the Sabon-Wuse General Hospital morgue.
A carved wooden weapon resembling an AK-47 rifle, along with a mobile phone containing a SIM card and charms tied around the suspect’s waist, were recovered at the scene. Abiodun noted that the phone is being analysed to assist in tracking the fleeing gang members.
In a related development, the police rescued a suspected motorcycle thief from a mob in Minna, the state capital. The suspect, 25-year-old Abdullahi Abubakar of Barkin-Sale, was reportedly caught attempting to steal a Bajaj motorcycle near the General Hospital.
The Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division led a team that responded to a distress call and intervened before the suspect could be lynched. He was taken into custody along with the recovered motorcycle.
Abiodun confirmed that investigations are ongoing into both incidents and the motorcycle theft suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
