The Zone XI Police Headquarters has arrested a suspected fake lawyer, Emmanuel Odeh, who allegedly posed as a qualified attorney for nearly a decade, defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians through false legal representation, estate agency, and consultancy services.

Odeh was apprehended on Thursday, August 28, 2025, by operatives of the X-Squad Section, led by ACP Akinloye Oyegade, while appearing in court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as counsel for a client.

In a statement on Saturday, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Ade Ogunyemi, disclosed that investigations revealed Odeh operated under the name “A.O. Emmanuel, Legal Practitioner and Public Consultant.”

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone XI, Emuobo Ekokotu, described the case as a reminder of the dangers of dealing with unverified legal practitioners.

“This case underscores the dangers of dealing with unverified legal practitioners. Victims risk losing money, suffering inadequate representation, and even damage to their reputation,” he said.

Ekokotu warned that the police would not hesitate to bring impersonators to justice, stressing that the incident should serve as a deterrent to others with similar criminal intent.

Police confirmed that Odeh will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
