TINUBU INSISTS ON WITHDRAWAL OF POLICE OFFICERS FROM VIP DUTIES, ORDERS STRICT COMPLIANCE

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that the Federal Government will not reverse its directive ordering the withdrawal and redeployment of police officers assigned to VIPs, VVIPs and ministers. The President issued the warning on Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the State House Council Chamber, Abuja.
Tinubu stressed that the directive was non-negotiable and urged all ministers to ensure immediate compliance.
“If you have any problem because of the nature of your assignments, please contact the IGP and get my clearance,” he cautioned.
The President directed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam; and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to oversee the full implementation of the order.
Tinubu emphasized that police officers are trained to protect the lives and property of citizens particularly the most vulnerable and should not be deployed primarily for the comfort of a privileged few.
He revealed that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, would coordinate the replacement of withdrawn police personnel with operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“The National Security and Civil Defence Corps are trained for VIP protection, and they are armed too,” the President said.
Tinubu noted that the police would now be better mobilised to address the country’s security challenges, including kidnapping, banditry and terrorism. He added that the current security framework would be reviewed to strengthen protection for citizens and communities.
“We need all forces utilised. I know some people are exposed; we will make the exceptions. The Civil Defence is very much around,” he assured.
The President instructed ministers with special assignments requiring police security to meet with the Inspector General of Police for proper clearance.
