Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bayo Ojulari, has praised the Dangote Refinery as a world-class facility, equipped with advanced technology and capable of significantly impacting both Nigeria’s economy and the global energy market.
Ojulari made the remarks while speaking to the media following an inspection of several areas of the refinery, including the master control room, during a visit hosted by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote.
Highlighting the refinery’s scale and sophistication, Ojulari said Nigerians should take pride in the achievement.
“Nigerians should be grateful for the leadership and vision of Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the Dangote Group for the audacity to undertake such a massive project,” he stated.
He emphasized that experiencing the plant firsthand offers a deeper appreciation of its technological advancements and operational readiness.
“There’s nothing like being here in person to see things for yourself. What we are seeing here is what I call the frontline of world-class technology,” he said.

Ojulari specifically noted the refinery’s design architecture and built-in redundancy, observing that even with its single-train configuration, it delivers exceptionally high operational availability.
“Seeing the architecture and the redundancy of the plant… despite being a single train, it has incredibly high availability,” he remarked.
He added that the facility has been tested at, and even beyond, its installed capacity, with live operational parameters demonstrating impressive performance.
“This plant has now been tested to its full capacity, and beyond… seeing it live, the parameters we are observing are real-time and remarkable,” he noted.
Ojulari also revealed that discussions during the visit included plans to expand the refinery’s capacity. He explained that the proposed expansion would leverage existing common infrastructure, making replication more cost-efficient.
“The expansion of the plant is underway, which will double its capacity… using all common facilities… making replication possible at a much lower capital cost,” he said.
He congratulated Dangote on the successful completion of the project and reaffirmed NNPC’s position as a shareholder in the refinery. Ojulari expressed optimism that the facility would help strengthen Nigeria’s energy security, reduce fuel imports, and position the country as a major refining hub.
