APC’S MAIKALANGU WINS AMAC CHAIRMANSHIP ELECTION

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Christopher Maikalangu, has been declared the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The results of the municipal chairmanship poll were announced at the commission’s area office in Karu at about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The AMAC Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, stated that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, was returned elected after securing the highest number of votes—40,295 out of the 62,861 valid votes recorded in the election.

“That Maikalangu of the APC, having certified the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

Abue disclosed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 3,398 votes.

He added that rejected votes stood at 2,336, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197, while valid votes were 62,861. According to him, AMAC had 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 accredited voters participating in the exercise.

The breakdown of results for parties and candidates that contested the AMAC chairmanship election is as follows:

Nemiebika Tamunomiesam (Action Alliance) – 108 votes
Paul Ogidi (ADC) – 12,109 votes
Richard Elizabeth (Action Democratic Party) – 588 votes
Christopher Maikalangu (APC) – 40,295 votes
Eze Chukwu (APGA) – 1,111 votes
Chukwu Promise (APM) – 122 votes
Ugoh Michael (APP) – 32 votes
Thomas Happiness (Boot Party) – 43 votes
Jibrin Alhassan (NNPP) – 1,694 votes
Samson Usani (NRM) – 73 votes
Dantani Zanda (PDP) – 3,398 votes
Iber Shimakaha (PRP) – 90 votes
Simon Obinna (SDP) – 2,185 votes
Madaki Robert (YPP) – 421 votes
Swani Buba (ZLP)—189 votes.
