Suspected bandits have attacked Wanka community in Keram District of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State, killing three soldiers and seven vigilantes.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Friday when the gunmen invaded the village and began shooting indiscriminately, causing panic among residents.
Reports also indicate that several of the attackers were killed during the clash. A community source told Daily Post that two army captains were among the soldiers who lost their lives.
According to the source, residents had previously been living alongside the bandits, who had largely taken control of the area. The bandits reportedly moved freely within the community, carrying out their activities without forcing locals to flee.
He explained that earlier on Friday morning, security operatives led by the two captains carried out an operation in the community, confronting the bandits and killing several of them while others escaped into nearby bushes.
