TROOPS FOIL ISWAP INFILTRATION ATTEMPT IN BORNO

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai under the Joint Task Force (North East) have successfully foiled an infiltration attempt by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) at Bitta in Sector 1, dealing another setback to the terrorist group.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Sani Uba.
According to the statement, the attack formed part of ISWAP’s efforts to regain momentum following recent battlefield losses suffered by the group.
“The failed attack occurred when ISWAP terrorists, in a desperate bid to regain the initiative after recent battlefield setbacks, attempted to infiltrate the troops’ location.
“Unknown to the terrorists, vigilant OPHK troops had anticipated the move and deliberately prepared a decisive offensive-defensive battle plan,” the statement said.
The military explained that as the terrorists advanced toward the troops’ position, coordinated spoiling actions were launched to disrupt their assault formation while manoeuvring to block possible escape routes.
The attackers were reportedly met with overwhelming resistance and superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray after suffering significant casualties.
The development marks the third major defeat recorded against ISWAP within 24 hours, following earlier failed attacks at Banki and Azir Bridge.
The statement noted that the repeated setbacks underscore the sustained operational pressure being mounted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai across the North-East theatre.
According to the military, the operations have significantly restricted the terrorists’ freedom of movement and denied them opportunities to exploit propaganda narratives.
Troops were said to have maintained full control of their positions while continuing to dominate the operational environment with high morale, superior tactical coordination and sustained offensive action.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience and urged them to sustain the operational tempo in ongoing efforts to defeat terrorism in the region.
