OYO APC LEADERS PRAISE PEACEFUL CONGRESSES, CALL FOR ZONING REVIEW

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in six local government areas of Oyo State have praised the party leadership for the peaceful conduct of its ward, local government, and state congresses, while also calling for a review of the party’s zoning policy at the national level.
Representatives from Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole, and Ona-Ara LGAs conveyed this in a communiqué issued after their quarterly meeting held at the party’s secretariat along New Ife Road in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The communiqué, signed by Kamorudeen Ajisafe (Chairman) and Buliaminu Ogundele (Secretary), noted that the congresses were successfully conducted despite initial concerns stemming from past experiences.
“Just a few months ago, there were widespread fears about the potential for controversy surrounding the planned congresses, due to challenges encountered in 2018 and 2022,” the communiqué stated.
“Now that the congresses are over, naysayers and doubting Thomases have been placed where they rightfully belonged. Oyo APC emerged stronger and better focused after the whole exercise.” the stakeholders said.
They attributed the outcome to the leadership’s adoption of consensus and the conduct of party members, noting that the exercise was peaceful across the state.
“This laudable feat could not have been achieved without the display of maturity and decorum by the leadership of the party following the recommendation of consensus from the national secretariat.
“It is on record that the congresses were conducted peacefully across all 351 wards and 33 local government areas,” the stakeholders said.
The group also congratulated former Deputy Governor of the state, Moses Adeyemo, on his election as the new state chairman, pledging their full support for his leadership.
“Most importantly, we use this opportunity to congratulate former Deputy Governor Moses Adeyemo on his emergence as the new state chairman, and we assure him and his team of our utmost cooperation and support to achieve the goals and objectives set for 2027 and beyond,” they added.
However, they urged the new chairman to address ongoing disagreements in certain local government areas.
The stakeholders also appealed to the party’s national leadership to review the zoning arrangement used at the last national convention, citing what they described as the marginalisation of Oyo State.
“Finally, it is crucial for the national leadership of our great party to address the imbalance evident in the zoning of offices and positions at both the South West zonal and National Executive Committee levels.
“Oyo State possesses a large voting population and abundant human resources, which should merit stronger representation in these positions. We call for justice and fairness before it is too late,” they concluded.
