A Nigerian national who worked as a canvasser for a Democratic congressional campaign in Pennsylvania has been arrested by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after pleading guilty to a disorderly conduct charge linked to an alleged public exposure incident.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified the man as Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe in a statement released on October 7, 2026.
According to the department, Igbojekwe was arrested in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania, on September 27 over allegations of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He subsequently pleaded guilty to the disorderly conduct charge.
The DHS stated that ICE took him into custody on October 1, following his conviction.
The department also disclosed that Igbojekwe was working as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, at the time of the incident.
Citing local media reports, the DHS alleged that Igbojekwe was found exposing himself in a residential neighbourhood near a park where residents, including children, were present.
Reacting to the incident, ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall criticised Stelson for employing the Nigerian national as part of her campaign team.
Wall questioned the decision to have Igbojekwe on the campaign team, describing the alleged conduct as unacceptable and accusing him of being an undocumented immigrant.
He added that the Trump administration remained committed to identifying and removing undocumented immigrants it considers dangerous to public safety.
The DHS further disclosed that Igbojekwe was legally admitted into the United States in June 2017 but remained in the country after his authorised period of stay expired in November 2019.
According to the department, he was granted deferred action by the administration of former US President Joe Biden in September 2021.
However, the DHS did not provide further details about the current status of his immigration proceedings.
