Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a notorious human trafficker, identified as 47-year-old Alex Omosivie, and rescued two of his victims in Uyo, the state capital.
The arrest, which took place at about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, followed credible intelligence, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.
John disclosed that a surveillance team, acting on the tip-off, apprehended the suspect at a hotel along Ring Road 3, Uyo, where two young women were rescued.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Omosivie, a native of Edo State and a deportee from an African country, had recently trafficked two other young women: 18-year-old Odo Asuquo Asuquo to Libya in July 2025, and 16-year-old Glory Asuquo Asuquo to Burkina Faso on August 18, 2025.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting that he was paid N50,000 per victim,” John said, adding that the parents of the victims who were already trafficked have been contacted to assist with investigations.
She further noted that the command is intensifying efforts to track down Omosivie’s accomplices and dismantle the trafficking network.
