The Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) has confirmed the abduction of three passengers traveling in an 18-seater Toyota bus along the Okene/Lokoja Federal Highway in Adavi Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Monday at about 3:00 p.m. near Aku village, when armed men dressed in military camouflage, suspected to be Fulani bandits, attacked the vehicle with registration number Benue DAP 325 LG.

In a swift response, operatives of the KSVS Osara Command, supported by six local hunters, engaged the attackers in a gun duel. Despite their efforts, the assailants escaped into the forest with three kidnapped passengers. The bus driver and three others were, however, rescued.

Tragically, a bystander struck by a stray bullet during the crossfire lost his life.

Controller-General of the KSVS, Ibrahim Omeiza Sani, said intelligence gathering was ongoing to track the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims. He commended the gallantry of his men and the hunters, while praising Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment to security across the state.

Sani also lauded State Security Adviser Jerry Omodara for his continued support, and directed his personnel to intensify efforts to pursue criminal elements, particularly kidnappers, until they are brought to justice.

The vigilante boss urged residents to remain vigilant, security-conscious, and to promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

The development comes days after the release of the District Head of Bagaji Odo in Omala Local Government Area, David Akpa, who was abducted on September 1, 2025 was reported.
