The wife of the Abia State Governor, Priscilla Otti, has called on Abia indigenes living in the diaspora to invest in and contribute to the state’s development, stressing that Abia’s future depends on the collective commitment of its people both within and outside Nigeria.

Otti made the appeal on Saturday during the Abia Town Hall Meeting organised by the Women’s Wing of the Abia State Town Union at Abati Barracks, Ojuelegba, Lagos.

The event was attended by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu; Senior Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti, Agbonma Ukaobasi; alongside other government officials.

Addressing participants at the event, the governor’s wife described the gathering as “a conversation about our shared future” and urged Abians living outside the state to contribute meaningfully to its development

It is a reminder that no matter where we meet, Abia is enough,” she said, noting that Abia women remained among the state’s greatest assets with the capacity to accelerate development across sectors.

She highlighted ongoing improvements in infrastructure, security, education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, as well as efforts to create a more business-friendly environment in the state.

According to her, the achievements recorded so far represented only a fraction of the administration’s development agenda.

Our performing governor is intentional about development in Abia. As he would always say, he’s just starting. He has a lot of great plans for Abia State, and he’s always saying that you haven’t seen anything yet,” she said.

Otti, however, stressed that the government alone could not drive development, calling for stronger collaboration between residents and Abians in the diaspora.

But meaningful progress requires partnership. Governments cannot do it alone. Today, this is an opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen collaboration, identify investment opportunities, and explore practical ways Abians in Lagos State can actively contribute to the growth and prosperity of our beloved state,” she said.

She also urged women to play leading roles in the state’s development, describing them as catalysts for societal progress.

“Women are not merely participants in development; they are catalysts for development. When a woman succeeds, a family rises. When families thrive, communities prosper,” she said.

The governor’s wife further called for increased civic participation ahead of future elections, urging eligible voters to register, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate peacefully in the democratic process.

She maintained that the future of the state would not be determined solely by residents at home but also by the commitment and sacrifices of Abians across Nigeria and in the diaspora.

She emphasized that Abia’s future cannot be shaped by residents alone, noting that Abians living in Lagos, across Nigeria, and in the diaspora also have a vital role to play through their dedication, vision, and contributions.

She called on Abians worldwide to deepen connections with their home state by promoting investments, sharing knowledge, and supporting community development efforts.

According to her, stronger links between the diaspora and home communities are essential, urging Abians to contribute not only financial resources but also their ideas, skills, and expertise toward the state’s growth and development.
