DANGOTE CEMENT TRAINS OVER 200 DRIVERS AT 2025 SAFETY RETREAT
Agency Report
The management of Dangote Cement Plc has reiterated its commitment to road safety, announcing the training and retraining of its drivers nationwide to ensure safe driving practices.
Group Managing Director of the company, Mr. Arvind Pathak, made this known on Friday at the 2025 Annual Driver’s Retreat held at the company’s Ibese plant in Ogun State. The retreat, themed “Drive Safely, Arrive Safely”, brought together more than 200 drivers for intensive training sessions.
Pathak said Dangote Cement would continue to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with safety standards, monitoring, and evaluation of its operational processes. He stressed that the company maintains transparency, ethical conduct, and detailed systems aimed at minimizing road incidents across the country.
“Dangote is a responsible organisation that consistently cooperates with the Nigeria Police and other relevant authorities in the investigation of reported incidents, while implementing recommendations that strengthen public safety,” Pathak stated.
He explained that every Dangote Cement driver undergoes a rigorous recruitment process, which includes:
Valid Class G driver’s licence
Background verification of driver and guarantors
Comprehensive medical evaluation (eye test, blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar checks)
Drug and alcohol testing within a three-month detection window
A two-week intensive training programme covering 12 safety modules, practical driving tests, and written examinations
According to him, over 500 prospective drivers have successfully completed this process in the past two months, with only those meeting all requirements certified to operate Dangote Group vehicles.
Pathak added that drivers also undergo mandatory pre-trip medical checks, including fitness and vision tests, while random drug tests are conducted routinely to enforce the company’s zero-tolerance policy on substance use.
“We enforce strict safety and behavioural standards and apply punitive measures to curb errant driving,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Mr. James Adenuga, Group Chief, Health, Safety, Social and Environment Officer, Dangote Industries Limited, said the retreat served as a reminder for drivers to adopt safe driving practices.
Also addressing participants, road safety expert Mr. Oje Ebhota urged drivers to avoid dangerous overtaking and adhere to the 60km per hour speed limit to prevent avoidable accidents.
