A fire incident on Sunday gutted part of Leventis Plaza in Abuja, affecting a tailoring workshop located on the first floor of the commercial complex.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) said the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Paul Abraham, the service confirmed that firefighters responded swiftly and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the plaza and nearby facilities, including Grand Square, The Palm Hotels, and Frazier’s Suites.

According to the statement, the FFS Control Room immediately dispatched a Special Unit team from its National Headquarters upon receiving the emergency call. The crew, led by SF Adoko, arrived at the scene within five minutes and took prompt action to bring the fire under control.

Abraham said the timely intervention of the firefighters helped save property valued at approximately N900 million, out of an estimated N1 billion before the incident. He added that the team carried out firefighting, salvage, and overhaul operations, followed by a thorough inspection of the affected area.

The Federal Fire Service reiterated its commitment to public safety and the protection of lives and property nationwide, while urging citizens and business owners to exercise caution with electrical installations to prevent similar incidents.

Fire outbreaks in commercial buildings have remained a concern in Abuja, with many incidents often attributed to electrical faults and poor maintenance of installations.
