NIGERIAN AFROFUJI SINGER DESTINY BOY DIES AT 22

Nigerian Afrofuji singer Afeez Adeshina popularly known as Destiny Boy, has died at the age of 22, sparking shock and grief across the entertainment industry and on social media.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of his death has not been officially disclosed, and details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear. News of his passing spread rapidly across social media platforms, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues.
Following the announcement of his death, a social media post previously shared by the late singer resurfaced and went viral. In the post, Destiny Boy reflected on ambition and mortality, writing: “Either I make this money or I die young, money must be made.” The statement has since drawn renewed attention in light of his sudden demise.
A video circulating online showed the late musician’s body being transported in a bus to an undisclosed location. In the footage, it was alleged that he had vomited an unknown substance, although no official explanation has been provided regarding the incident or the cause of death.
In November 2024, Destiny Boy welcomed his first child, a baby boy, with his partner, Iremide. Announcing the birth at the time, he expressed gratitude, writing: “Alhamdulillah. Junior is here. My first son.”
Destiny Boy began his journey in the entertainment industry at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos State. He initially worked as a backup dancer for Fuji music icon Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, an experience that significantly influenced his musical direction and exposure within the Fuji music scene.
He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” which went viral and positioned him as one of the young artistes redefining Fuji music for a new generation. He later released several covers of popular songs by artists including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, further strengthening his presence in the Afrofuji genre.
His original discography included songs such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey, showcasing his unique blend of traditional Fuji rhythms with contemporary Nigerian sounds.
Since the news of his death broke, Nigerians have continued to express deep sorrow and disbelief, offering prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for his family, especially his young child, during this difficult time.
