The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged privileged Nigerians to extend support to the less fortunate in society, stressing the need for compassion and collective responsibility.

Gbajabiamila made the call on Thursday during a series of visits to hospitals in Lagos, where he marked the New Year by celebrating babies born on January 1 and settling the medical bills of indigent patients.

At the Gbaja Maternal and Child Centre in Surulere, the Chief of Staff welcomed newborns delivered on New Year’s Day. The first baby of 2026 at the facility, a male child named Yusuf, was born at 12:01 a.m. via caesarean section, weighing 3.7 kilogrammes.

He congratulated the mothers on their safe deliveries and wished them good health, before presenting a cash gift of N500,000 alongside other items to Jumoke Yusuf, the mother of the first baby. Cash gifts were also given to the mothers of other babies born shortly after.

Expressing gratitude, Mrs Yusuf described the gesture as a pleasant surprise and prayed for continued blessings for the Chief of Staff, noting that the gifts would greatly support her family.

Gbajabiamila later visited the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, where he interacted with patients and paid several outstanding medical bills. At the bedside of Mr Adedeji Oluwatimilehin, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds during an armed robbery attack in the Ajah area of Lagos, the Chief of Staff expressed sympathy and settled his N3.5 million hospital bill.

Describing the incident as devastating, Gbajabiamila thanked God for sparing the patient’s life and wished him a speedy recovery. An emotional Oluwatimilehin thanked the Chief of Staff, saying the intervention restored his hope at a critical time.

According to report, the Chief of Staff paid medical bills totalling N33.5 million for patients at LUTH.

The outreach continued at the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital, where he also interacted with patients and cleared the medical bills of those unable to afford their treatment.

The Office of the Chief of Staff later disclosed that a total of N53 million was spent on the medical outreach across the hospitals, underscoring Gbajabiamila’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians and promoting social welfare.
