The Taraba State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has dismissed reports claiming that it uncovered a suspected “drug bunker” at the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences in Jalingo.
In a clarification issued on Tuesday and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mawoh Paul Voloh, the command said it had not conducted any operation at the college or within its immediate surroundings.
The clarification followed the circulation of a report titled, “NDLEA Uncovers Suspected Drug Bunker at Taraba College of Nursing Sciences.”
The agency said it neither issued any statement nor released information concerning the alleged discovery of a drug bunker at the institution.
According to the command, the photographs and details accompanying the report should not be attributed to the Taraba NDLEA, as it had no official record of such an operation.
The command explained that its ongoing anti-drug activities across the state were being carried out under Operation Restore Order, which is focused on detecting, disrupting and dismantling illicit drug activities and trafficking networks.
It, however, warned the public against assuming that every photograph or report circulating on social media represents an official NDLEA operation or statement.
The agency described the report as misleading, noting that it could wrongly link the college, its management, staff and students to illicit drug activities and damage the reputation of innocent individuals.
The NDLEA therefore urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information with the relevant authorities before publishing or sharing reports concerning its operations.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to Operation Restore Order and its mandate to protect communities, particularly young people, from the dangers associated with drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
