The Jigawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of approximately 1,300 kilograms of illicit drugs between April and June 2025, as part of its intensified efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking across the state.

The disclosure was made on Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, by the NDLEA Commander in Jigawa State, Musa Maina, during a press briefing held in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

Commander Maina emphasized the agency’s unwavering commitment to combating the use and distribution of illegal substances throughout all 27 local government areas of the state. He noted that the NDLEA’s enforcement efforts in the second quarter of the year have been impactful, with the latest seizure representing a significant step forward.

“We are grateful to our partners, including security agencies, civil society groups, NYSC members, and students who have supported our campaign against drug abuse,” Maina said. “Their collaboration is vital to sustaining the momentum in this fight.”

Also speaking at the event, Khadi Bashir Birnin-Kudu, Chairman of the Jigawa State Committee on Drug Abuse and Control, underscored the importance of the occasion. He said the commemoration served as a reminder of the urgent need to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

“The consequences of drug abuse are devastating and can destroy lives,” he warned. “We urge members of the public to stay away from drugs and join hands with the government to create a safer and healthier society.”

Khadi praised the NDLEA’s recent efforts, describing them as “a step in the right direction,” and expressed optimism that the agency’s proactive measures would yield long-term benefits for the people of Jigawa State.

Earlier in the day, the NDLEA held a public enlightenment rally through Dutse metropolis to sensitize residents about the health and societal risks associated with drug use, in a bid to promote prevention through education and community engagement.
