The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old driver, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, for the alleged murder of his former employer, Mr. Kola Adun, and the attempted sale of the victim’s stolen Toyota Camry.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspect was apprehended in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos, while trying to sell the vehicle, raising suspicions that led to his arrest.
The case came to light after residents of River Valley Estate in Ojodu Berger reported a strong, offensive odour emanating from an apartment. At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, officers from the Ojodu Abiodun Division responded to a distress call and proceeded to Ogunmoyero Street, where they forced entry into the residence. Inside, they discovered the decomposing body of Mr. Kola Adun on the first floor.
The body, according to police, had visible stab wounds and bloodstains at the scene, indicating a violent death. Prior to the discovery, a friend of the victim had raised concerns after being unable to reach him by phone and finding the house gate locked from the outside. The phone later went off completely, prompting further alarm and a report to authorities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who had previously worked as the deceased’s driver, allegedly broke into the home on Saturday, fatally stabbed his former boss, and fled the scene with the victim’s Toyota Camry bearing registration number AAA 193 GC.
The case took a dramatic turn when Oluwadamilare attempted to sell the vehicle to a car dealer in Ijede. The dealer, reportedly suspicious of the suspect’s inconsistent narrative, contacted law enforcement, leading to the suspect’s arrest at the scene.
The police confirmed that the remains of the deceased have been evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for autopsy. The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
The Ogun State Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to bringing justice to the bereaved family and ensuring the suspect faces the full weight of the law.
