Following Wednesday’s Federal High Court ruling in Abuja directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Senator Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said the judgment will restore order, peace, and unity in the Labour Party (LP).
In a statement issued Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti congratulated the National Caretaker Committee, led by Usman as chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as secretary, along with all committee members and the wider party. He described the court decision as “heartwarming and timely,” adding that “this victory heralds a new dawn of order, peace, and unity in the party.”
Otti emphasized that the ruling provides an opportunity to reorganize and rejuvenate the LP, transforming it into a democratic platform that meets members’ expectations and becomes a formidable political force capable of achieving electoral success and delivering good governance at all levels.
He urged the party leadership to use the judgment as a chance to ensure purposeful and inclusive leadership committed to peace, unity, and justice in line with the party’s constitution and ideals.

The governor also appealed to those responsible for what he described as “frivolous litigations” against the party to respect the court’s decision, which aligns with an earlier Supreme Court ruling. He assured them of “forgiveness and proper reintegration” if they embrace law-abiding conduct and commit to the party’s unity.
Otti thanked the court for its “sound judgment” and lauded supporters of democracy for standing by the LP during challenging times. He reaffirmed his commitment to contributing positively to the deepening of democracy and ensuring peace and order in the country.
Reacting to the judgment, Abia State LP Chairman Emmanuel Otti described the ruling as a restoration of public trust in the judiciary. He expressed confidence that any faction led by Julius Abure pursuing an appeal would be disappointed, insisting that the Abuja High Court decision “will stand the test of legal time.” “They are just wasting their time,” he added.
